15 sippy cups and 7 potties later...

When my daughter was around six months old, I was told by my health visitor to try her with a sippy cup for water and juice. Not unusual really. Like many children though, she was so fussy with the type of spout and I ended up buying many, many brands to try and tempt her into weaning off the bottle. When we moved house last year I counted up the various cups we had-I had bought 15 sippy cups. FIFTEEN!!!

What on earth was I thinking? You may think I would have learned my lesson, well let me tell you. Some two years on from that, we now have seven potties and a toilet training seat. Not mentioning the potty and toilet training seat at my parents’ house.

Am I the marketing market’s perfect woman or do I have the world’s most fussy child?

Most of my friends children have already potty trained at Elizabeth’s age (never had an accident, took to it straight away). Granted she has been behind with other parts of her life (she rolled over at 9 months, crawled at 14 and walked at 21 months) so maybe I should cut her a bit of slack but it is so hard when other people are telling you they think she is ready.

Even my mum said we should try.

You would think I would learn that every child does things at their own pace but I haven’t and I’m afraid the seven potties are proof that I still worry about what other people think.

I am however publically proclaiming that I will never, ever buy another potty. If she refuses to sit on any of the seven we already own, it is proof enough to me that the poor girl is not ready and her neurotic mummy needs to stop listening to other people (again).

Mummy knows best. I am going to tattoo this to my forehead.
